Choice of Folded Leaflet Printing Materials

  • 80gsm uncoated. This paper is bond (also known as cartridge paper) which is used in most office printers and photocopiers
  • 90gsm uncoated. This is a heavier version of the same material, sometimes used for letterheads
  • 100gsm uncoated. This weight of paper is widely used for letterheads and is ideal for double sided leaflets or flyers, when a material with more character than the common gloss or silk arts is required
  • 120gsm uncoated. This is a high quality paper used for prestige stationery gives a sophisticated feel to promotional leaflets
  • 130gsm gloss art. This paper is “coated” and has a shiny surface. It has good opacity and along with 115gsm gloss art  is the industry standard material for leaflet printing
  • 170gsm gloss art. This is a luxurious, heavier version of the gloss art papers mentioned above
  • 250gsm gloss art. This card (also known as board) has a more rigid feel than the lighter paper weights
  • 300gsm gloss art. This board will make the Flat Leaflet or Flyer very durable
  • 90gsm silk. This thin paper is also coated, but the surface is smooth and silky. Silk paper is sometimes called Satin or Matt Art
  • 130gsm silk. It has good opacity and is a very popular weight for leaflet printing. It has a non-reflective silk surface rather than the less sophisticated glossy finish of gloss arts
  • 170gsm silk. This is a luxurious, heavier version of the silk papers mentioned above
  • 250gsm silk. This board (also known as card) feels, and is, thicker than the lighter paper weights
  • 300gsm silk. This board will provide great durability to the Leaflet or Flyer

The Many Different Folds Available for Folded Leaflets

  • 4 page Half Fold (1 fold). This is one fold, which is positioned in the centre of the leaflet
  • 6 page Roll Fold (2 folds). The two folds are positioned at approximately one third and two thirds of the way across the leaflet; both folds move upwards and overlap each other.
  • 6 page Z Fold (2 folds). The two folds are positioned at approximately one third and two thirds of the way across the leaflet; one fold moves upwards and one from the opposite end moves downwards, covering the middle panel of the leaflet on both the front and the back.
  • 6 page Open Gatefold, also known as a 6 page Open Gate Fold, (2 folds). The two folds are positioned at approximately one quarter and three quarters of the way across the leaflet; both folds move towards the middle, covering the central half of the leaflet.
  • 8 page Closed Gatefold, also known as an 8 page Closed Gate Fold, (3 folds). The first two folds are positioned at approximately one quarter and three quarters of the way across the leaflet; both folds move towards the middle, covering the central half of the leaflet (exactly as the Open Gatefold, also known as Open Gate Fold, above), then there is a final fold right in the centre which brings the right hand side over on top of the left hand side.
  • 8 page Roll Fold (3 folds). The three folds are positioned at approximately one quarter, halfway and three quarters of the way across the leaflet; each fold progressively rolls up a quarter of the width of the leaflet on top of the remaining unfolded leaflet: first creating two thicknesses, then three thicknesses then finally four thicknesses.
  • 8 page Z Fold (3 folds). The three folds are positioned at approximately one quarter, halfway and three quarters of the way across the leaflet; the folds of a quarter of width of the leaflet occur in opposite directions: first down, then up, then down. If you look at it from the side it resembles a concertina.
  • 10 page Roll Fold (4 folds). The four folds are positioned at approximately one fifth intervals across the leaflet; each fold progressively rolls up a fifth of the width of the leaflet on top of the remaining unfolded leaflet: first creating two thicknesses, then three thicknesses then four and finally five thicknesses.
  • 10 page Z Fold (4 folds). The four folds are positioned at approximately fifth intervals across the leaflet; the folds of a fifth of the width of the leaflet occur in opposite directions: first down, then up, then down, then up. If you look at it from the side it resembles a concertina.
  • 12 page Double Parallel Fold (5 folds, but is in fact only folded three times). The first fold is right in the centre of the leaflet which then creates a double thickness. The subsequent two folds are positioned at approximately one third and two thirds of the way across the folded leaflet; both folds move upwards and overlap each other. When you open it up and count the number of fold lines you will see that there are five, creating six panels each of approximately one sixth of the flat leaflet’s width.
  • 12 page Half Fold plus Roll Fold (3 folds). The first fold is halfway along the long dimension then the two thicknesses are roll folded with two folds at right angles to the first fold positioned at approximately one third and two thirds of the way across the leaflet; both folds move upwards and overlap each other.
  • 12 page Z Fold (5 folds). The five folds are positioned at sixth intervals across the leaflet; the folds of a sixth of the width of the leaflet occur in opposite directions: first down, then up, then down, then up and finally down. If you look at it from the side it resembles a concertina.

Turnaround Time for Folded Leaflet Printing

We offer a choice of Standard Turnaround and Express Turnaround on most Folded Leaflet sizes and materials. The number of working days include the day of order (providing we have a print ready PDF and payment before 3.30pm) and the day of delibvery; so if you see 5 working days in the price table and order on a Monday, the expected delivery date is Friday. If you need a faster turnaround, please phone or email us for a quote. It is probable that the faster turnaround will make the job more expensive.

Artwork and PDF requirements for Folded Leaflets

  • We operate a PDF workflow, so please supply your Folded Leaflet artwork as a Press Quality PDF, set up in spreads. If you prefer, we can create a PDF for you, in which case we will email a proof to you for approval. There is an additional charge for this PDF creation service; the charge will be a minimum of £20 – please email over your document and we will give tou a quote for creating the PDF.
  • If any print reaches the edge of your Folded Leaflet, please add 3mm bleed to all sides of your artwork
  • We need a “quiet area” to ensure nothing important is too near to the trimmed edge of the Folded Leaflet; so please leave an inner margin of between 3mm and 5mm for anything other than backgrounds
  • Supply your Folded Leaflet artwork files to us in CMYK, not RGB please
  • The image resolution should be 300dpi or more
  • Please embed fonts or convert all of your text to shapes
